New York NY
A yoga studio situated in the middle of a busy intersection on a narrow triangular site posed several site challenges. Sound dampening was a major design focus because yoga requires a quiet environment. The units’ bumpy shapes perform as natural sound barriers, becoming more dense where the sound was most intense. The exterior acts as a sound barrier, while the interior is a tranquil environment. The units’ size changed in scale depending on the space’s function, growing where the space is larger to form structural ribs and separating to create diffused clerestory lighting.
